Show Claimjumper leads the league.. .in forfeits by Randy Hanskat Forfeit carried a big stick in the Park City Men's Basketball League this week. Of the six games scheduled, two were decided by forfeit when teams failed to show. The two offending teams were the Claimjumper and the Alpine Prospectors Lodge. On the court, the top team of the league, the Ranchers of Jeremy, were idle this week, a relief for the other teams. Otherwise, the Trunks of Kamas Forest Products showed that they may give the Ranchers a bucking for their money, as - they savagely manhandled the Alpine Prospectors 99-34 in the first game Wednesday, March 7. The Trunks are a game and a half back. The Trunks, obviously looking forward to their showdown with the Ranchers March 14 (the press time of this issue prohibits coverage until next week), abused the Prospectors by the largest margin of any game this season, 65. Kenny Peterson of the Trunks was high man on the night with 24 points. The second contest March 7 pitted the Back Doctors of Cofer against the Recreators of P.C. The Recreators haven't won a game since at least the last snow storm, and that's a very long time. Final score Back Doctors 64, Recreators 42. The third game March 7 was non-existent as the Claimjumpers forfeited to the Camels of Ireland. It was the eighth loss of the season for the Jumpers, against no victories. On Monday night the Camels continued their winning win-ning ways by upsetting the Valley Hi Guys 47-44. The Valley Guys were once in the unbeaten ranks of the league, but have faded considerably over the past month. Meanwhile, the Camels have been coming on. Both teams are now 6-3 on the year. Mike Bronson of the Valley Guys put in 17 points for high scoring honors, but all to no avail. Monday's second battle was a one-sided affair. The Engineers of J.J. Johnson have only won two games on the season, giving rise to the suggestion that they should stay at the drafting tables. The SW Refrigerators gave them no reason to think otherwise with a 70-35 mashing. The Refrigerators rose to 5-4 on the year. Alan Sorenson dumped in 26 points to become high man. The final contest on Monday eve was supposed to pit the Tanks of Septic against the Prospectors of Alpine, but the conspicuous absence of enough Prospectors Prospec-tors precluded any play. It was the first forfeit of the season for the Prospectors. Next week's report will include a report on the dramatic showdown between the Ranchers and the Trunks. See the Scoreboard section for league standings and upcoming games. And do take notice the final games of the season are on Tuesday, March 20, not Wednesday. |
