Show Pilot ies in chopper crash A helicopter pilot for an oil exploration company died Saturday morning after his machine crashed into a wildland area about five miles east of Wanship. The victim was identified as John Michael Richardson, 39, of Indianapolis. He died of cranial and cerebral injuries, according to a report from the state medical examiner's office. Summit Sheriff's deputy Gary Vetterli said Richardson was apparently ejected from his Bell Jet Ranger copter when it crashed in an area between 1-80 and Brown's Canyon. The wreck was found at about 10 a.m. by another an-other pilot flying for the same company, Daniel Geophysical, Geo-physical, Inc., out of Denver. The second pilot, Taylor Jordan, took the victim to the Park City Emergency Center for treatment. He was transferred to IDS Hospital in Salt Lake, where he was pronounced dead about 11 :30 a.m. The Federal . Aviation Administration (FA A) began an investigation Sunday, with the help of county officers, to determine the cause of the crash. The mishap occurred about two or three miles from the helicopter helicop-ter staging area in Peoa, said Vetterli. The FAA has not completed complet-ed the probe at this writing. |
