Show gf Song mi Looking for something different to do this weekend? Here are a few suggestions, compiled by Park Record entertainment critic Rick Brough. Unless otherwise noted, events listed below will take place in Salt Lake MOVIES The Salt Lake City Library continues with a series of films from Akira Kuosawa. "Rashomon," made in 1950, shows a rape-murder from the points of view of four people: the criminal (Toshiro Mifune), the raped wife, the murdered husband and a witness. It plays Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $2.50 each or $20 for the series. The library is at 209 East 500 South. It's ghost-buster time at the library with its Friday Festival. This week, on Oct. 12, the feature is "Dead of Night," the first movie to assemble a collection of short horror tales. In this 1946 British classic, you'll find ghosts, a haunted mirror, a ghastly premonition, and a ventriloquist (Michael Redgrave) bedeviled by his dummy. It plays at 2 p.m. (for 25 cents) and 7 p.m. (50 cents). At the Blue Mouse: "Sugar Cane Alley" is an acclaimed Third World film set among the poor of Martinique; Spanish director Carlos Saura gives us another dance film in "Carmen;" "Strange Invaders" where aliens took over a small town 25 years ago, and are still living in the Fifties; and "Liquid Sky" is a mix of punk, sci-fi and black humor. The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. Films of the Sixties are the focus at the Utah Media Center. First is "Easy Rider" a dated film, but one that galvanized the young in its day. The film plays on Oct. 12 (7:30 p.m.), 13 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.) and 14 (7:30 p.m.). "Zabriskie Point," the co-feature, was a dud in its time, though some critics now say it's so-so. It is directed by Italian Michelangelo Antonioni, with Rod Taylor the most recognizable face. It plays Oct. 12 (9:30 p.m.), 13 (7:30 p.m.) and 14 (5:30 and 9:30 p.m.) The films are shown in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Art Center, 20 South West Temple.
