DANCE Park City's own belly-dancing troupe, Arabian Daze, is appearing at Salt Lake's Cedars of Lebanon Mideastern restaurant ( 154 East 200 South) on Thursday, June 27 at 8 p.m. For further information, call Anne Bowman at 649-6100. MOVIES . The Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy Festival concludes at the Salt Lake Public Library with "Sweethearts." The musical pair portray operetta stars manipulated by their producer (Frank Morgan) into having a marital spat. The film plays on June 28 at 2 p.m. for 25 cents and 7 p.m. for 50 cents. The library is at 209 East 500 South. -At the Blue Mouse: "Where the Green Ants Dream" shows Australian aborigines threatened by progress; "The Return of the Soldier" stars Alan Bates as an amnesiac World War I vet caught between his wife (Julie Christie) , his old love ( Glenda Jackson) and the love he did not requite ( Ann-Margret) ; "Matter of Heart" examines the life of C.G. Jung. The Mouse is at 260 East 100 South. The Utah Media Center concludes its Judy Garland festival with "Easter Parade." Fred Astaire plays a hoofer who loses one partner (Ann Miller) but rises to fame and romance with another (Garland). It also stars Peter Lawford. The film plays on June 28 at 7: 30 p.m., June 29 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and June 30 at 5: 30 p.m. The Orson Welles series also finishes with his version of Kafka's "The Trial," in which Anthony Perkins is the beleaguered defendant and Welles plays his sinister "defense lawyer." It plays on June 28 and 29 at 9 : 30 p. m . and June 30 at 7 : 30 and 9 : 30 p. m . The films are shown in the auditorium of the Salt Lake Art Center, at 20 South West Temple. MUSIC Tears For Fears appears as part of the ParkWest Summer Concert Series on July 1 at 7:30 p.m., with special guest Gowan, at the ParkWest Resort near Park City. No coolers, containers, alcohol, cameras or recorders. 1 rr The Utah Symphony presents a Bach-Handel Festival, with Joseph Silverstein conducting, at Symphony Hall (123 West South Temple) on June 27-29 at 8 p.m. Also, the program will be given at Snowbird on June 30at2p.m. Puccini's "La Boheme" is presented by the Salt Lake Opera Theatre on June 27 and 29 at 8 p.m. at Kingsbury Hall, University of Utah. THEATRE- Aeschylus' "Agamemnon" is presented as part of the University of Utah's 13th Annual Classic Theatre Festival. The two free performances take place on June 29 and 30 at about 6 a.m. at the This is the Place Amphitheater in Emigration Canyon, northeast of Hogle Zoo (2600 Sunnyside Avenue) . It would be wise to bring a jacket or blanket. The Lagoon Opera House presents "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" Wednesday-Saturday through August. Showtime is 8:30p.m. The Sundance Resort's Summer Theatre in Provo Canyon presents "The Wizard of Oz," nightly except Sundays through July 12 at 8:30 p.m. The theater is outside so be sure to dress warm. Join El Gallo and company for the perennial hit "The Fantasticks" at Theatre 138 ( 138 South 200 East) . It plays Thursday-Saturday through June 29 at 8 p.m. James Arrington presents "The Farley Family Reunion" at the Little Bowery of Promised Valley Playhouse (132 South State) Wednesday-Saturday through July 3 at 7:30 p.m. A June 22 matinee is at 2 p.m. ETCETERA A discussion session on July 1 at the Park City Library will focus on "A Raisin in the Sun" by Lorraine Hansberry. Time for the discussion is 7 p.m. The library is at 1354 Park Ave. -The Kimball Art Center at the bottom of Main Street in Park City presents the Utah Watercolor Society group show, an annual juried display, plus the metaphysical paintings of Robert Setrakian. The exhibit runs until July 4. The Hansen Planetarium, 15 South State, presents "Journey with Digistar" on Sunday at 2 and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday at 2, 4:30 and 7 p.m. and Saturday at 4:30 and 7 p.m. "The Clio Awards" follow the 7 p.m. star shows. "The Beatles : The Music That Changed the world' ' plays on Thursday at 9 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday at 3 p.m. The Hansen's childrens' programs include "Adventures Along the Spectrum" which plays Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. and Saturdays at 2 p.m. and "Zoom a Little Zoom" which plays Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 11 a.m. |
