Show Whoa! Here's a Ride and Tie steed you don't have to feed "It's a poor man's Ride & Tie," says Jack Turner, organizer of Park City's First Annual Bike 'n Tie, who claims he doesn't have the time (or money) to train and feed the horse the national competition requires. "Face it, a horse is a 24-hour-a-day eating machine, and when it comes to the Ride & Tie you have to spend more time training the horse than the person." Although Turner actually enjoys Ride & Tie, last year while watching the competition he thought "Wouldn't this be great if more people could do it?" If they used bicycles, Turner decided, almost everyone who wanted to participate, could. So a new sporting event was born and Park City residents now have the opportunity to be pioneers. The event, approved last week by the Park City Council, will take place Aug. 10. The course will cover 20 miles in and around Park City. It is 50 percent paved and 50 percent dirt, Turner said. "But remember, that's Park City paved." . Turner said he expects a number of competitors to ride fat-tired mountain bicycles. Each team will consist of two people ana one bicycle. The athletes will be required to trade off running and riding. The payoff at the finish line will include four trips to Hawaii, Turner said. The entry fee is $25 per team through Aug. 6 or $35 per team after Aug. 7. Prizes will be awarded to the overall fastest team, the fastest male, female and coed teams and the fastest in each of three age divisions juniors aged 17 years and younger, seniors aged 18 to 34 years and masters aged 35 years and older.
