Show J. I ;.HAVr. Jim Delanty Right Angle will frame you in new Main St. shop by Randy Hanskat "I was framed!" is a constant complaint from the gangster movie detective show scene. But you don't hear posters or photos complaining. Why? Because they look better framed. The only problem, usually, is the owner of the framable, who either is too cheap to get the framing done o: doesn't trust the person doing it. Now people with those problems can relax: Right Angle Picture Framing recently opened at 517 Main Street. And the shop's owner is well known and trusted throughout town as a fine framer. His name is Jim Delanty, and he did the framing at Family Jewels before he opened his own shop in early July. Now Delanty works for himself seven days a week, averaging 10 to '12 hours a day, he said. The shop's official hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, but the volume of business has been so heavy extra hours have been necessary. Delanty said he specializes in "creative matting techniques" that give many oi his framings a three-dimensional quality by the use of mats of various heights. Prices for frames and matting run by the foot, but Delanty said most frame jobs cost from $12 to $50. Delanty said he carries affordable materials that allow him to keep prices down. For the do-it-yourselfers Delanty will cut frame pieces to size, allowing construction to be done at home. Discounts are offered if additional pieces are brought in to be framed. In addition to framing, Right Angle carries art for sale. Delanty tries to specialize in Park City-oriented City-oriented work, he said. Where most of his framing business comes from the comunity, Delanty expects to sell the majority of artwork to tourists. Originally Delanty worked in carpentry and construction, he said. From there the step to framing was natural. At Family Jewels, where he started when the shop began framing, he "learned by doing." Now, with seven years' experience under his belt, it takes Delanty only one half hour to one hour to complete a framing. |
