Show . - v- -. - ... 't - Private eye joins hunt I for Depot arsonist by NAN CHALAT staff writer John Sevier's offer of $5,000 for information leading to the person who set fire to the Union Pacific Depot building last week has yet to turn up any hard leads. But it did catch the attention of a private eye in Alpine, Utah. An investigator with previous experience working for both the CIA and the FBI has volunteered to take on the case, Sevier said. In the meantime, Lieutenant Lloyd Evans of the Park City Police Department said he is still interviewing anyone who might have seen anything pertaining to the fire. Sevier said that approximately 55 percent of the historic building was destroyed by the fire, but that he is still planning to restore it. Enough remains to keep the building on the National Register of Historic Places, he said. The stabilization and security program required by the chief city building official had already been implemented, Sevier said. Although it is the responsibility of the current owner, Randy Fields, to secure the premises, Fields has approved Sevier's choice of Hudelson Construction to do the work. Hudelson is currently working with Sevier to restore the Imperial Hotel on Main Street. Sevier's company, Landmark Lane, was due to purchase the Depot on May 1 . But because of the April 21 fire the closing date on the property has been delayed to May 15. "We are proceeding just as we were before. And if the deal goes through you will see me working thereon May 16," he said. According to Sevier the cost of removing the burned portions of the roof and cleaning up after the fire will be paid by the insurance settlement. "I've concentrated 90 percent of my efforts on the Depot this week," Sevier said. Lieutenant Evans said that no suspects are currently being held but that "no one is above suspicion." The Park City Police Department will continue its investigation in cooperation with the state fire Marshall's office, Evans said. i in i ' ii |
