Show Commissioners Table Decker Zone Decision, Local Residents Vocal f by Anne L. Burnett Record Correspondent The issue of allowing commercial development along Highway 224 in Sny-derville Sny-derville was again before the Summit County Planning Commission Tuesday night and was tabled as Bruce Decker attempted to follow through with the next step in his efforts to develop a "highway services" project ! on his property near the entrance to Old Ranch Road. Decker succeeded a month f ago in getting the county planning commission to revise re-vise the area's master plan to allow for such development over planning and Park City officials' complaints. Decker is now asking for a recommendation recom-mendation from the planning commission to the Summit County Commission for certification certi-fication of zone change to allow him to proceed with his project. Park City's council members mem-bers Tina Lewis and Helen Alvarez were present at the meeting as was Park City Planning Director Bill Ligety and several area residents. In expressing their objections objec-tions they generally repeated reasons stated at previous meetings. Those objections centered around damage to the current environment and "entry way into Park City" and the expected traffic impact on an "already busy highway." In previously voting to amend the master plan, county planning commissioners commission-ers appeared reluctant to limit Decker's right to develop his property by denying his request. However, How-ever, county commissioner Bill Wallin managed to get the commission to postpone their decision until their next meeting which he suggested be moved to the Snyderville area. Wallin' s suggestions came on the heels of a request made by Bill Ligety who expressed concern that Decker has been continually allowed to "make his case before the commission" while many of those who object have not been able to attend the Coalville meetings. meet-ings. He asked that if the meeting were to be held in Coalville that Decker not be allowed to present his project again since many of the disagreeing residents and city officials might not be able to attend the meeting to state their side of the story. Wallin' s suggestion allows for residence attendance and as Wallin pointed out it would give commissioners a chance to view the proposed site first-hand. The meeting has been tentatively scheduled for October 26 and will probably be held at Parley's Park Elementary School. Decker said he was unhappy unhap-py about the postponement of the decision. "I think it short-circuits the system. It delays the public hearing process you'd have to through out 'there (in Shy der-ville) der-ville) anyway." |
