Show Utah Tourism Survey In Mail What do American tourists think of Utah? A current picture of Utah national image should develop devel-op as a result of a survey going into the mail this week from Utah State University. According to Bill Gartner, director of the USU-based Institute for the Study of Outdoor Recreation and Tourism, 6,000 questionnaires question-naires are being mailed to a random selection of people in cities across the nation with market areas as small as 50,000 people. In an effort to stimulate response of those people surveyed, one who responds will receive a round trip ticket to any of Western Airline's destinations, the director said. "We are hoping for a return of about 4,000 questionnaires," question-naires," he added. The survey, funded by the Utah Travel Council, is a followup to work done about a decade ago. At that time, a survey compared attitudes toward Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and Utah. The present survey is to see whether attitudes toward the Beehive state have changed and what constraints there are to travel in Utah. Gartner pointed out that the average tourist stay in Utah is 1.8 nights. "If we can get visitors to extend their stays in Utah just one more night, it will mean an additional $143 million revenue generated each year," the tourism and travel institute director said. |
