Show Governors Due Here For Seminars Over 30 American governors, gover-nors, their spouses, press aids and staff members are expected in Park City this weekend to attend a two-day series of seminars. The event, sponsored by the National Governors' Association, is hosted by Utah Governor Scott Math-eson, Math-eson, the association chairman. chair-man. Seventeen newly elected governors have been invited to attend, as have the governors whom they are replacing. Chamber-Bureau Public Affairs Director Tina Lewis said some 200 people are expected. She said most of the business will take place at the Holiday Inn. According to Matheson's office, the seminar focuses on procedural, rather than policy issues and considers such topics as organization of the governors' office, management man-agement of the executive branch, and executive-legislative relations. Discussion will be led by panels of incumbent governors. gover-nors. Expected to participate partici-pate are Matheson, Colorado Gov. Richard Lamm, Georgia Gov. George Busbee, Hawaii Gov. George Ariyoshi, Illinois Illi-nois Gov. James Thompson, Indiana Gov. Robert Orr, Iowa Gov. Robert Ray, Kansas Gov. John Carlin, Maine Gov. Joseph Brennan, Missouri Gov. Christopher Bond. North Dakota Gov. Allen Olson, South Dakota Gov. William Janklow, Tennessee Tenn-essee Gov. Lamar Alexander, Alexan-der, Vermont Gov. Richard Snelling, Virginia Gov. Charles Char-les Robb and West Virginia Gov. Jay Rockefeller. Also attending will be three former governors: Calvin Rampton of Utah, Terry Sanford of North Carolina, and Reuben Askew of Florida. The governor's office said, since the purpose of the seminar is to enable incumbent incum-bent governors to freely share their experiences with the newly elected governors, every attempt is made to keep the attendance limited and the setting informal. |
