Show Fire District Report Training Monday night began with a lecture and demonstration by Fire Marshal Mars-hal Herb Johnson of a new plastic "BX" type of electrical electri-cal conduit that has recently been approved by the National Natio-nal Electrical Code for use in building. One of the problems pro-blems with this material is it gives off a toxic gas when it burns. This material is not in common use, but is now approved for building. Johnson also showed approved ap-proved plans for some extensive building on Main Street that involves several five story buildings. There was a lot of discussion about protection of structures this high and several concerns were voiced related to pre-planning these structures struct-ures even before they are constructed. A chart was passed out listing ignition temperatures of common household substances subs-tances (paper, 462, leather 424, white pine, 406), and melting temperatures of various metals, useful in arson investigation. There was a short review of routine maintenance procedures proce-dures on the engines and crews broke up to go over each engine, testing pumps and inventorying equipment on each truck.
