Show - . - . "Operation Check-up" In an effort to keep a pulse on the needs of the senior citizens in Park City, a committee has been formed and nicknamed "Operation Check-Up. " Last Monday evening, the group spoke to . the senior citizens at their biweekly bi-weekly dinner on what services servic-es could be available. , Tom Shellenberger spoke on behalf of both the Park City Council and the EMTs. He explained the EMTs are willing to give free checkups check-ups to those persons who requested such a service. And the city will provide a tractor for landscaping purposes. Diana Maxell, public health nurse, was a familiar figure to many;. of the seniors. Diana , explained that the health dept. does make house calls to those people who are unable to leave their home. Teri Poison, from The Park Record, presented the idea of a hotline similar to a program used by the Salt Lake Police Dept. The senior citizens who wish to be part of such a program would call into a central telephone location everyday. If the . telephone station did not receive a call they would in turn call the senior "at home, and if there was still no reply, then a patrol car would be sent out to investigate. Many of the seniors spoke up about more immediate concerns that they had. Violet Terry said, "You can't find anyone to do the little jobs. I wish there was some kind of a handyman service in town." Several of the group spoke about the lack of available people to shovel in the winter time. One lady said, "No one likes that shoveling, and most would be wililng to pay someone if they could find someone willing to do it. " "I agree with this phone idea." said one gentleman. "I think it is essential." When it came time for a hand count on how many seniors would use a "hotline "hot-line service", there was only a smattering of hands. However, How-ever, after the meeting, several of the seniors came up to this reporter to admit they were too proud to publicly say they needed that kind of reassurance. Bernice Marcellin and Don Peterson were named as the senior citizens to sit on , this input committee. With a list of concerns from snow shoveling to lawn . mowing, the committee left with a realistic- idea of the immediate needs of the senior citizens. .
