This summer, from June 1 to July 31. the Kimball Art' Center will sponsor a "Summer "Sum-mer Institute of Arts." incorporating incorp-orating workshops and exhib-; its in both the performing and visual arts. The programs will be open to anyone from high school and older, with an emphasis on semi-professional and professionals in their fields. From Fredrick Wong, the celebrated New York water-colorist. water-colorist. to John Takahara. who works wonders with clay, the faculty promises to be impressive. Performing artists who will participate in the program include the Reportory Dance Theatre from Salt Lake and four University of Utah professors pro-fessors who will- sponsor a special workshop in theatre arts. The participating profes-sors profes-sors include Paul .Bannam, David Kranes. Roland Butler, and H.F..D. Redford. Their w kshops will run from June 23 to July 18. " In conjunction nith the institute program, there will be two major exhibits at the Center. T'ic first, entitled V Art on Paper." is sponsored bv the American Federation of the Arts. "It will be," according to the Art Center Director David Fernandez, "one of the best, exhibits presented in tbi area in a long while." The second exhibit will be during the final four weeks and it will display the works of the summer faculty. The special Summer Institute Insti-tute will be funded with a grant from the Utah Arts Council. amounting to S 1 7.000. It is a matching fund -grant and the Art Center will match the figure with both service and cash. Registration for the program pro-gram will be opened in early" April.
