Show Chairman Eihk "T V ' ' , " Mrsl Sherry .Kink has been named by the Colorado Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation a&;the 1980 Chairman of the' Park City community fundraising and public education campaign. A special event will be planned H jn May by Mrs. Kink and her committee to help raise funds for, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Found-ation and . to educate the J community of Park City about cystic fibrosis". Cystic fibrosis is the number num-ber one genetic killer of children and affects onev in every 1 ,600 births nationally. It - is, considered a ; children's disease, primarily because ' those afflicted with it cannot expect to survive to young adulthood. Cystic fibrosis at- . tacks the digestive system and lungs. Thick mucus blocks the pancreas, hindering enzymes ! produced for the digestion of food. Air passages . in . the ; lungs f are flocked, making breathing difficult. ' Although various treatments have been developed to delay trrever-' sible lung damage, a cure is still an urgent priority. Researchers Re-searchers also continue to searcli for a reliable test for the suspected one in, -twenty carriers of the cystic fibrosis .gene There is no doubt that the i Foundation's foremost priority is the funding of research, projects searching for a cure and control of cystic fibrosis. Funds raised through the combined efforts of 105 state and local chapters nationwide . go to. fund research projects wherever there is promise of discovery.
