Show I H H I By BERT BOYACK 1 L r DOTTIE BROWN WILKINS This week Dottie Brown Wilkins singer musical entertainer entertainer entertainer en- en en en- professional designer design design- er and dressmaker North Chapel h p l Dr Drive ve Bo Bountiful I became involved in my first profession at the age of 10 At this time I won a trip to Hollywood with my talent for playing a four string guitar and singing western songs The feeling that I could sing and entertain people people people peo peo- and make them forget lifes life's trials and troubles for a little while inspired me and led me on HER VIVACIOUS sparkling personality has certainly been self-evident self in Dottie's activities activities activities ties as an entertainer housewife housewife housewife house house- wife and mother since this early beginning In the entertainment field she has been with KUTA and radio and then later with and I television She made many I personal appearances alone and with her partner and brother Bob Brown on radio as The Sunshine Kids and andon andon andon on TV Square Dance Jamborees AS A MOTHER she had I married and had five sons I and raised them along with I her first profession Terry Hanks age 21 U of U student student student stu stu- dent Randy Hanks age 20 U of U student Scott Hanks age 17 senior at Highland High Cory Hanks deceased age 11 1964 and Marty 1 Hanks flanks age 11 living with his mother and her husband husband husband hus hus- band David J. J Wilkins here in I Bountiful Dottie's third profession that of designing and dressmaking stemmed from two reasons she confesses I needed many I ii I changes of clothes for my shows and I was seeking individuality in- in in my dress plus the fact I was hard to fit And I really had a desire tobe to tobe tobe be dressed differently so as not to embarrass any woman in my audiences or in my shows by appearing on stage in a dress exactly like hers tt Therefore Dottie learned to o sew and design her own clothes cloth es is and costumes and knowing ng g that many other women ha have ve e size and fitting problems she s he e has now gone into her ne new IV p career with the desire to he help p them with her custom dress dress- s- s making I also have plans pla is in the near future to tea teach ch h one or two classes a we week ek k to the many girls and wom women en n who already sew but w who ho o want to learn the finer finishing finishing finish finis h- h i- i ing points of dressmaking she said DOTTIE'S HUSBAND Day David id J. J Wilkins music director for KALL radio is also an excellent excellent ex ex- excellent ex- ex musician accomplished accomplish accomplish- ed with trumpet and piano They and their son Marty live in Bountiful moving here two and a half years ago and this is now our town and we want to spend our lives here A native of Salt Lake City Dottie is a graduate of South High School She has had no formal education in music and confesses I I 1 sing and play guitar completely by ear I cannot read a note of music DOTTIE HAS worked diligently diligently diligently dili dili- gently to get much out of life and shows enthusiasm in everything about her She said in conclusion But through all the struggles of life and there have been many especially when my son had leukemia I read a prayer which is I known as The Serenity Prayer Prayer Pray Pray- er and it has been my pillar I of strength God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot cannot cannot can can- not change The courage to change the things I can And the wisdom to know the difference Amen |
