Show Dual Antenna System Installation May Provide Belter TV Reception By David Richins Last week David Richins and LeRoy Grant of Richins T.V. Supply tested different types of UHF antennas throughout the county. Five different types and styles were tested. The antennas were rated from suburban to fringe and the retail re-tail price varied from $7.00 to $20.00 It was concluded that the higher high-er priced antenna didnot necessarily neces-sarily give the best picture. The largest determining factor fac-tor in receiving a good picture was the area and the design of the antenna. The County Commissioners should be congratulated for their location selection for the primary station. There are a few areas in the county which are blocked out, but most of the county can receive anexcel- , lent picture.Commissioner Carlos Porter pointed out that substations will be built to reach the blacked out areas. As previously mentioned by the commissioners, if a person can see Lewis Peak, he can receive re-ceive an excellent picture. The testing verified this. In areas not affording a clear view of the peak, a dual system can be installed on the home in which both UHF and VHF can be used. A dual system can be attained attain-ed by mounting both a VHF and a UFH antenna on the same mast. The antennas can be coupled together on one down lead wire. A signal splitter is then installed instal-led on the back of the set. With a dual system, a person ; could watch KUED the educational educa-tional channel and maybe Channel Chan-nel 5 on UHF and then watch Channels 2 and 4 on VHF depending de-pending on the best reception. With this type of hook up, a person can watch VHF or UHF without changing the lead in wires on the back of the set. For people who do not have a UHF channel selector on their T.V. , a UHF converter can be purchased for approximately $20.00. The converter sits on top of the T.V. and has an intergal UHF channel selector. This makes it possible to receive re-ceive UHF on any T.V. The converter con-verter can also be hooked up on a dual system. Park City: The antennas were tested in the rear of the High School and the picture varied from poor to excellent depending depend-ing on the antenna type. The picture pic-ture received on top of Main St. had some snow in it. A dual system should be considered. |
