Show Park High Seniors Climb to Timp; Drill Team Named, Primary Held Nelson presented an introductory introduc-tory to the Senior Class. Invocation was given by Mar-jean Mar-jean Chantry. The mixed chorus, directed by Miss Saundra Fidel, sang This Is My Country Brigham Young University Professor, Dr. Reed H. Bradford, Brad-ford, presented the Baccalaureate Baccalaur-eate address on the 'steps to success'. "Let There Be Peace" was sung by the mixed chorus at the conclusion of the services. Senior drill mistress must have two years experience and be an upcoming senior; the vice president must be a junior with one year experience; the junior drill mistress must have one year experience and the new secretary has to be a sophomore. soph-omore. The new officers are Robin Johnson, senior drill mistress; mis-tress; Deanna Martinez, vice-president; vice-president; junior drill mistress, mis-tress, Tangee Sanchez; and secretary, sec-retary, Jayne Farley. A meeting was held Tuesday Tues-day to plan new uniforms. Twelve out of nineteen girls voted for new uniforms. Because Be-cause of the material and the patterns, the dresses will cost $30.00. During the summer the officers and advisors will gather gath-er material, adjust patterns, find shoes, and keep the team together. to-gether. During the summer the officers of-ficers will attend clinics held for the Drill teams of Utah. The Intermountain Drill Team Clinic in Logan will be attended by Robin Johnson, Michelle Murphy, Tangee Sanchez San-chez and Carol Ann Uriarte. This will cost each girl $58.00. In August BYU holds a Pep Clinic. Attending this will be Gay Lynn Kummer representing the cheerleaders, and Deanna Martinez representing the Drill Team; each will pay $62.00 for this activity. The Drill Team plans many money making projects to help the girls pay for these special clinics. The summer practices will begin in full swing once school is out. These are held once a week to keep each girl in shape and to learn new marches for next year. It is hoped that the girls who attend the summer clinics bring back new ideas for the Drill Team to try out next year. Reporter, Sandy McDonald. -PCHS- Baccalaureate services were held May 23 at PCHS for the candidates for graduation. Superintendent Dennis E. of high school. Last Friday, was our day of recognition. As we sat together as a class, our teachers and others honored us for our achievements, goals and hard work. . Could it really have been as long as it once seemed? Looking Look-ing back now, its all gone by so fast. Jan Watts, Bevan Nelson, Lloyd Evans, Cally Leatham, Susanne Evans and Sandy McDonald Mc-Donald were honored with scholarships that each had worked so hard to achieve. The Class Will and Prophecy were read and have already been forgotten. for-gotten. The elections are final; the new president, Bill Mawhinney; vice president, Mary Jean Roach; secretary, Brenda Mc-Naughten; Mc-Naughten; and Historian; Faye Farley have taken their oath of office. Seven new cheerleaders have been sworn in and are ready to go, with new and exciting ex-citing ideas for next year. The school song "Park High" has been sung; sang with more ' solemnity and stateliness, than ever before. Remember how loud and happy we could sing it for the ball games? Award Day Assembly is over. "Seniors First". This time the student body remained seated while Seniors filed out. Applause Ap-plause shook the auditorium, just for us! Rides, games, food, and of course the fun house were all enjoyed by the Park High students at Lagoon, last Thursday. Many games were played and practically every girl came home with a stuffed toy! But of course the rides were popular too. The roller coaster, mouse scrambler, paratrooper, airplanes, cars, kiddie rides all were fun and greatly enjoyed. en-joyed. Reporter, Sandy McDonald. Mc-Donald. -PCHS- New officers, new uniforms, summer activities were all planned by the Drill Team last week as the new pep club prepared pre-pared for next year. The officers requirements -PCHS- "Nine more miles." That's how the seniors felt as they passed the halfway mark going up to the Mt. Timpano'gos Cave on their Senior Sluff Day. The seniors left school Thursday morning happy, gay, effervescent, full of vim and vigor. Upon arrival at the park station sta-tion the group was ushered into a theater to see a short film on the discovery of the caves. They were familarized with different cave formations. forma-tions. They were then escorted to the trail to the caves. Just before starting they were warned warn-ed abut falling rocks which was certainly encouraging. At the cave entrance they were greeted by an individual who at first was mistaken for Smokey the Bear, but who was later identified as a park ranger. There were many interesting interest-ing formations such as: the Pillsbury Dough Boy, a dead chicken, a Saint Bernard dog, but the most interesting was Poison Rock "one drop and it'll kill ya!" Altogether it took 2 12 hours, fortunately when the seniors got back down,there was apicnic lunch waiting for them. Before coming back to Park City the group went to a movie. The majority went to see "Little Big Man," while the rest went to "Love Story." All in all it was a day to be remembered. The seniors were accompanied accom-panied by Miss Sandra Fidel and Mr. and Mrs. Rasband. Reporter, Sandy McDonald. PCHS- "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, turn kick." Counting, concentrating, smiling, smil-ing, and generally trying to appear ap-pear cool, calm, and collected collect-ed for Pep Club tryouts, 24 girls marched to "Warm and Windy" Friday, May 44. Each girl was judged on the following characteristics: 1. Be a freshman or older. 2. Try out their first two years. 3. Seniors who have been members for two years are automatic members in their last year. 4. Have a B- or 2.66 grade point average. 5. Have a good record of attendance at-tendance at previous games. 6. Does not neck in halls during school hours. (Ed. Note: How about after and before be-fore school?) 7. Does not swear, smoke or drink. 8. Be able to do the splits with both legs within three inches from the floor. 9. Learn the Minerbacker song. 10. Judging will be done by outside judges who do not know the girls. PRIMARY ELECTION "Dr. Simmons; Superintendent Superinten-dent Nelson; Studentbody; fellow candidates; distinguished guests, seniors." Each candidate can-didate began his primary election elec-tion speech in the above manner, man-ner, making everyone aware that it is again time to choose new studentbody officers. There were three candidates for each office: secretary, Michelle Murphy, Brenda MacNaughton, Mac-Naughton, andFaye Farley; vice president, Mike Farley, Hal Smith and Mary Jean Roach; president, Kerry Gee, Bill , Mawhinney, Jeff Polychronis. After the students listened to the speeches, they voted for two candidates from each group; the votes were counted and the candidates for the office are: Secretary, Brenda MacNaughton, MacNaugh-ton, Faye Farley; vice president, pres-ident, Mike Farley, Mary Jean Roach; president, Kerry Gee and Bill Mawhinney.
