Show Election Goes Non-Partisan Evaluation of voting statistics for the recent election here in Park City seem to point out that this type of election should be NON PARTISAN! Voting interest ran high according ac-cording to the number of voters. Of a total of 795 who were registered, 547 people cast ballots. bal-lots. Of that figure only 174 cast straight party votes. The remainder of 373 split their ballots for one reason or another. an-other. Of the 174 who DID vote a straight party ticket 110 were Republican and the remainder of 64 were Democrats, thus showing that the Republicans are more party conscious. There were three candidates on each ticket, three Republicans Repub-licans and three Democrats, but of the 547 votes there were 261 write-in votes for SIX different people other than the nominated candidates! Now all of this points up the fact that for this City Council election the voters would prefer a NON-partisan election. There were spoiled ballots, also, in some instances, and this shows that voter information and instruction were not available avail-able before the election. |
