Show land classification report of utah the united states geological survey has just issued a land classification report tor for the state of utah which it states embraces more unoccupied acreage on the public domain than any other commonwealth wealth except nevada this nevado nevada land Is discussed in a somewhat similar report issued april 16 1926 in issuing the present report the vey makes the point that throughout the history of the united states the vacant unreserved public domain has stood as a challenge to the venturesome tur esome some a haven tor for the homeless a land of the mystery and allure that lie in the unfamiliar there still remains a vast area ot of such land and during recent months much interest has been aroused by proposals tor for the establishment ot of a new national policy for its administration political economists and others interested in land problems the report states regard an adequate land classification as an essential prerequisite to the study of such problems it Is estimated that the conditions described in the utah report prevail throughout approximately 80 per cent ot of the remaining public domain hence the conclusions ot of the report RS as well vell as theories predicted upon utah con eions should be widely applicable the report which was compiled by john F deeds and depue falck of the geological survey indicates that utah has su surface face features ranging from desert plains to rugged mountains lying from 2000 to more than feet above sea level its climate likewise varies within wide limits the rainfall ranges irom from to more than 40 inches andua annually lly and the frost tree free period ranges from less than one month to days within these limits a combination of surface and ell cl matic conditions favorable to crop pro is found only on relatively small areas which are shown on the map as dry farming and irrigated la land n d and ln d which ill c h form about 5 per cent of t the e are area classified 1 i A copy of the report with the map may be obtained from the director of the united states geological survey washington mashington D C or the district office of the survey at federal building salt lake city utah |
