green a close second this means these two boys will represent park city in the state contest both boys have the ability to become brilliant public speakers and although m we e do not expect them to turn out as patrick henrys or daniel websters we do expect them to make a very creditable showing lor for P CH S in the state finals every english student was required to write rite a speech on the american constitution find and every one had the opportunity ol of trying for the honor of being high school orator tills this work was under the direction of mrs palmer the english instructor tor in the semi finals two students were chosen from each english class to give their speeches in the final contest from w which the winning oration was chosen mr alston mr smith and mrs palmer judged the final contest the students selected tor for the final tryouts were thomas archer wallace burt ella don jack green francis harrington theodore johnson mary mcknight genevive mcleod vera peterson gerta arid and poster foster jones MAWHINNEY 32 49 W W elks club donates scholarship cup the elks club of park city has donated a scholarship cup to the outstanding class of the high school this cup Is not to be awarded to any individual I 1 but to the entire class the points on which the class winning the cup will w in be judged are scholarship attendance and punctuality punctuality and attendance receive ten points and scholarship receive eighty points the class winning the cup will have its name and the year the cup was won engraved on it it if the same class receive the cup for three years the cup becomes theirs and the elks will provide another one the student body surely appreciates this effort on the part ot of the elks to encourage not only individual class achievement hie but class spirit as well prom from the friendly competition the presentation this cup will incur we expect class records to take a tremendous leap to the front every student is 15 determined that his class will science the boys in civics are arc studying about the war and naval the war department did not seem so interesting intel estling I 1 but when it came to the naval department the boys were ready to
