Show the democratic county convention the record Is indebted to john E wright the C county clerk of summit county tor for I 1 the he following record and observations 0 f the democratic convention which was held here thursday october 2nd and mr wright served the convention as secretary and john A tallon chairman the convention was called to order by the county chairman J L boyden and after a few brief remarks introduced john C green as the keynote speaker ot of the convention mr green responded with a thirty minute e classic on what Is democracy which sh c would N v have been very acceptable in even a state convention the womans comans ath athenaeum en ae u m building n g where the convention was w a held h e ld was very e ry tastily decorated with flags and bunting the walls covered with democratic emblems and sentiment and a photographic print of all the democratic leaders from jefferson to smith the following commit committees ees were appointed credentials credential J 0 pack mcdonough and C H crittenden platform john P welsh J L boyden and james ure rules and order of business john C green john E wright and eugene morton horton of oakley after the committee reports were read and adopted the convention moved a recess and the entire party went to the senate S e corive a t restaurant rz tu t T t for dinner when it re reconvened at t 1 john C green introduced J judge geo christensen Chrls of carbon county who Is the democratic nominee tor for justice of the supreme court and heads the state ticket tor for his party this year judge christensen Chrls speaking tor for about one hall balf hour put the delegates in a very happy mood by his assurances that party success this year seemed to be very bright and promising ising the twenty one delegates from park city were all present and at the roll call shouted here like 9 a military company no one of 0 the ten alternates who had hoped to be given a seat in the event of 0 any vacancies had an opportunity to take part most of these delegates only missed being beang elected by one or two votes the large number of 0 visitors from the county who accompanied the delegates to park city proved quite an unexpected surprise to the local visitors and the outsiders filled the hall and rem remained ined until the close of the convention conven tio n the nominations for the respective offices resulted as follows bartly G mcdonough nominated mrs airs anna M kopp as the candidate tor for state legislature chris nominated john for four year commissioner redmond mcdonough nominated oscar lowe tor for the same office the vote th that a t followed mr air lowe was the successful nominee roy boy lambert of kamas placed thomas W mcneil of francis in nomination for the two year commiss commissioner loner chas H west of nominated joh john E wright tor for county clerk joseph summers of Co coalville alville nominated 0 d H herbert er crittenden tor for assessor ezra workman nominated frank for county recorder james ure of kamas nominated chas L frost of marion tor for county treasurer john 23 wright norn nominated bartly 0 mcdonough for county attorney chris nominated ezra workman tor for sheriff and john 0 green nominated ephraim adamson for this office which resulted favorable for mr adamson the office of sheriff was expected to furnish the convention with a real skirted contest between workman and adamson due to some misunderstanding among mr workmans Work mans followers as to whom was to fall the duty of placing hla his name before the convention a painful delay followed during which time the chairman called tor for any other nominations mr had just taken his bis seat scat alter after nominating for commissioner and was wholly unprepared to follow up with a second plea for another candidate mr workmans Work mans cause causa suffered as a result of the misunderstanding der standing and a fate that he did not deserve to receive john C green who has sponsored and vigorously furthered lur the candidacy of ephraim adamson tor for nearly a year was primed for a nomination speech for the nomination ot of a sheriff ff and adamsons friends were net disappointed in the effort he be made to nominate his candidate the mends friends of mr workman have only themselves to blame for the manner in which the welfare of their candidate was handled for the placing of his name was received more as a plea tor for s a complimentary vote than a serious bid lor for the office |
