listman it was a gl glorious orlou christmas day out this way verdant warm and beautiful 0 at the home early morning found the family amity gathered around the sparkling christmas tree the happy interest being centered upon the little daughter miriam as her wondering eyes rested upon automobile dolls mechanical toys and nd the scores of playthings and pretty things hangs that brought screams of delight to 0 o the happy child then as the many packages from absent ones were opened and loving remembrances distributed to the grownups grown ups by daddy santa claus joy and happiness was unconfined making merry indeed the entire christmas day telegraphic greetings came during the morning hours and greeting cards were piled high bringing loving messages and good cheer from relatives and friends of the family from various parts of the country which added much pleasure jor for the he recipients but all the greeting cards did not arrive tor for christmas day because perhaps of the tie ups of trains in the east by heavy storms and the big business at the local much christmas biall was not received until thursday friday some fifty greeting cards were delivered at the home and saturday forty more they were just as much appreciated however as it if they had been rec received elvea a week previous resolutions are now in order many of you undoubtedly have already made determined tar far reaching and uplift up lift g res resolutions tor for new year and already perhaps broken them there Is one resolution so however that should be made and lived up to with honest consistency during the entire year one which will not only exemplify loyalty but will help in the up building and progress of your home city namely that you will spend your money where you make it during 1930 thus by patronizing your deserving home merchants keeping your money circulating in your home city and helping materially in your home cites growth and advancement this resolution should be made and strictly adhered to not only by the laboring class but also by the professional and business men themselves 0 0 0 ed guest says home Is where our lives are told failure and success here our little dreams unfold no one has to guess just what sort of folks we are what we hope to be when you find the door ajar step inside and see bee 0 and in this kind of a home a mall mail order catalog Is rc r c er one of the ornaments na on the he front room table 4 0 even big and rich cities are oftentimes very v dilatory in paying belr honest debts take boasted los angeles for example suit was commenced last week by the captors of that fiend in human guise william edward hickman who murdered and dismembered little marlon marion parker in that city in 1927 to compel payment of the reward so extensively ten advertised at that time 0 0 apparently there Is much gold in some of the worked out mines in balth california enla th the e day before christmas frank moyle moyl and his son prospect prospecting Mg in an old gol gold cl mine at sonora struck a big pocket of that precious metal and Is still digging it out by the bushel it was a happy christmas undoubtedly for father and ison son and for them it should certainly be Is a prosperous new year I 1 0 jsn 1 greater agitation than usual Is a being I 1 manifested as regards the enforcement of the prohibition law president hoo I 1 ver vcr seems determined to use every means possible for more rigid enforcement in the future senator borah the earnest and consistent dry advocate of the senate Is again stirring up law enforcement in his usual vigorous manned and with tile the president demanding of eo congress n gega sweeping changes in the prohibition h hibi ib tion and other laws and a change in enforcement and the court systems good gond results will surely follow during 1930 IcIL in reply to crit critical criticism from the commission in of law observance and enforcement senator borah said 1 I do not assume that can catch every bootlegger but the open flaunting defiant persistent disregard of the law day after day any and month after month with no tort fiort being made to stop it calls for discussion that in my judgment is the beat way to hep help the president and especially ally to help the enforcement of the law what a difference it wocia make it if municipalities would honestly help the president by cutting out all camouflage and nig gering by fearlessly closing up and refusing all licenses for or whiskey A I 1 joints and vigorously enforcing the prohibition law with the now new year and new officers why not pork park city be the first to win renown and universal re by doing this very thing 0 0 0 it was quite a disastrous fire in washington D 0 recently effective and heroic service was given by the tha fire departments and president hoover in subduing tife the flames and strange as it may seem up to the present no demand has been mode made by the U S senate tor for a special committee to investigate the reason tor for the effective service it was with sincere regret that all utahna heard ot of the passing on of 0 representative E 0 Leat leatherwood berwood in washington D C the past week As a congressman he honored utah and as a citizen he be was honored because ot of his honesty and ability it can be truly said ot of him well done good and faithful servant pressure Ples it was indeed a pleasure sure to be called upon by a good lady friend direct from our home town the past week mrs alm wm win venable Vc housekeeper of th the e daly judge home their way to their salt lake homes when the call was made where mrs snyder expects to remain perhaps two weeks when the lady will return to santa monica to bo be with her husband it gave gava us a pleasure able thrill to see these two young people who first saw the light of day in park city 4 it has been our good fortune to hive have seen many pretty sights while in this section of unusual happenings but we think the prettiest one witnessed was the night after christmas at that time the family motored to altadena north of pasadena where on the toot foot hills under mount lowe Is a lane more than a mile long lined on both sides with high magnificent pine trees as straight as a dle die down the long slope it Is an annual custom to trim each of these h hundreds un of trees with hundreds of varied colored electric light bulbs and during the holiday season the lights are turned on every night and the illumination js is indeed beautiful beyond description many thousands of automobiles go down this lane during the illumination and as they enter from the top of the lane the headlights pre are ordered turned off by the police in charge so ns as not to detract from the tree illumination it Is a beautiful sight which must be seen to b be ully fully appreciated another boost for los angeles by a utahn A wealthy pro froio i 4 dy who frequently runs down to los angeles and
