Show GRAPHIC ACCOUNT OF WRECK OR TAVENER TELLS OF FRIDAY EVENINGS ACCIDENT has no desire to attach blame to the railroad company will continue hla tri east ar d sach a narrow escape from death lu the wreck dav the union depot friday evening in which john C van why lost hla life Is out of the hospital although he Is not yet over hla injuries ho Is from salt lake city and was on his wa back to his old home town in the east when the accident occurred the doc tor Is very popular in masonry circles and has the honor ot being a thirty thard degree mason s when seen by a reporter yesterday afternoon he told the following version of the affair r 1 I was on my way to kalamazoo Kalama oo michigan where I 1 had important bust ness to attend to when we arrived int ogden the car I 1 was in stopped direct ly in front ot the union depot th greater number 0 the passengers got off to take lunch and there were but seven or eight lett in the car when ahw occurred most ot whom sat in the rear part of the dr I 1 was tang pretty well orward and was per haps the only one in the front of car it appeared to me that we were running wild when the collision foll ision occurs red when the car and the came together the car seemed to shoot up almost perpendicularly and I 1 was thrown backward over the seats where 1 struck my back and shoulder f directly under where I 1 was thrown I 1 could bear muffled groans which ebli dently came from the poor engineer here the doctor broke down and could not proceed for a minute or two and then recovering his composure pro ceedee ce eded the steam came up in t blinding clouds through the hole madei la the bottom of the car then I 1 lost consciousness for a short time and the net thing I 1 knew I 1 was being puller through the window of the car while I 1 have been here the railroad company and the doctors and nurses at the hospital have treated me ly and with respect they did everything in their power in my behalf and I 1 thank them from the bottom ot my heart for it have no desire to attach blame to the railroad company it appears that it was the fault of the poor engineer who paid tor that mistake with his life he vently did not see the stop signal given and with the result tha his life was crushed out it as the intention ot dr to leave tor the east soon he is of th opinion that he is able to stana the journey and when he gets with his folks he will have time to recuperate |
