Show Home Sweet Home Once upon a time there was a certain fellow who wrote the words HOME SWEET HOME, and being as people thought they were nice words, they decided to have them framed, etc. But it is a certainty that the person who did write these wonderful words didn't know what the teachers of Bingham Canyon had to put up with or perhaps they never would have been uttered. It has been common talk, according ac-cording to reports, that teachers in the state of Utah will not come to Bingham Canyon until the last resort, as the living conditions are so far below par that rather than make a few more dollars per year they prefer to teach in the valley towns where they can at least get a place to reside that can be called a home. "HOME SWEET HOME." Many teachers who will be among those present in September when roll is called would be tickled pink to have a HOME, and the word SWEET could be left off. But no such luck. The teachers this year will have to do as they have always had to do get a room in a rooming house and eat their meals at restaurants. Of course we all know the. restaurants of Bingham Canyon are among" the finest in the state, and yet, with all their fine qualities, the teachers teach-ers prefer home cooking, prefer getting their own meals. Why can't this be ? It has been said that space has been offered the Jordan School District for a building at Highland Boy, and it is an assured fact that there is someone in Copperfield who will gladly furnish the ground for a teachers home in that section. During the month of December, Decem-ber, the report was given out that Copperfield would soon have a real gymnasium, a sort of family re-union, get-together place, but as yet it has not been forthcoming. forthcom-ing. It is the consensus of opinion opin-ion that a home for the teachers of Copperfield would be far more appropriate at this time, as it isj rather hard for teachers to give their best when living under adverse ad-verse conditions. The people of Copperfield have, in a measure cared for the wants of the sev-i sev-i eral teachers who are employed in that district, but it is claimed j that Highland Boy is in a pitiful condition. The teachers of that district are forced to journey to and from Highland Boy each day, and according to reports, are asked ask-ed to make the trip in an old fashioned fash-ioned horse and shay. (Note Automobiles may be secured at any time of the day and night to care for the teachers of Highland Boy, thus the horse and wagon COULD be eliminated.) "HOME SWEET HOME" we'll bite oh where is this home sweet home for the teachers of Bingham Canyon. Again, we'll bite WHERE? |
