| Show territorial FAIR the fair is a very extravagant luxury for utah tho committee on wa va and means ask for for the fair for 1894 what good does the fair do it distributes a few premiums for tho best rooster pig cow and horse yet as a rule tho winner of a premium usually ia the same winner of years gone by the territorial fair undoubtedly is a good thing for tho purpose of stimulating some people to baiso better crops better animals etc but who if any one gains anything by alie territorial fair do abo people who pay railroad fare to visit the fair do those who come to salt lake city and spend all their little savings of months who is the gainer of a territorial fair salt lake city to be sure every dollar that the people have gathered for months is taken to salt lake and is squandered among the merchants of that city Is it not fitting then if all the rest of the cities in the territory are financially losers through the fair that they should be exempt from any direct taxation in support of the fair it salt lake city alone is the gainer should eho not the expenses of the fair if salt lake can not afford to pay the premiums issued by the fair then tha fair should be discontinued for a few years at least eighteen thousand dollars tor tho purpose of drawing the people to the capital city to see the same old old thing should be discontinued our territorial indebtedness is now too much curtail the expenditures should be tho motto of every member of the legislature it the legislators will take a trip through southern and northern utah and investigate the poverty of alie people they will at once come to the conclusion that it is a ein to increase the taxes stop the extravagance heretofore practiced in territorial affairs there should be a general overhauling of all alie territorial institutions the expenses should be reduced to an income which will not be burdensome to the people |
