Show A BATTLE ON THE MEXICAN FRONTIER driven across the rio grande by united estates cropps into a mexican camp NEW ORLEANS dec 31 the times democrat cuevo laredo mexico special says colonel ceron commander of the mexican military parrison here has received a dispatch this morning from buerrero mexico giving an account of another bloody engagement which took place on the mexican side of the kio grande just north of that place last evening between about revolutionists and eighty mexican troops belonging to the sixth cavalry the revolutionists were commanded by prudencio gonzales they are the same detachment which made a successful attack on the mexican trompa opposite san ignacio they were pursued by lieutenant west of the united states cavalry and troops so closely that they determined to cross the river into mexico they had hardly crossed when they struck a camp of mexican troops encased in patrolling that ec tion of the border an attack was made by the revolutionists but the troops made a determined fight and despite the fact that they were outnumbered two to one succeeded after a hard fought battle in repulsing the revolutionists who retreated down the river it cannot be learned from adv official source how many were killed but U is rumored that ten revolutionists were left dead upon the field and twelve others were wounded including prudencio gonzales who escaped on his horse the loss to the mexican troops is said to have been seven killed and twenty wounded A large force of mexican troops is in pursuit of the revolutionists |
