Show WORLDS FAIR REPORT fihs ihs showing at the exposition will be on oil friday evening the territorial of worlds orld s fair commissioners held a meeting in in the quarters of the commission lom mission at salt lake city consid general and special business busin essof of no 10 special interest was transacted and lie the president and executive noner presented the following follow ing interest is report in pursuance of an order of the assion wo we visited chica chicago O 0 arriving thereon here on the of decem december e r and re gainin laining until the tile we visited the utah 1 building U alding and grounds at jackson park bark and found everything in in good hape shape the building practically com plated and the contractor on hand with a large force of men preparing in to 10 clear up ip the grounds and remove all 11 tho the rubush ush the inside of the building was undergoing inder going the finishing touches of the ainger a 11 liter carpenter and plumber while the be hutsi outside de was a ready for the painter but ut the weather was w as so cold that it was w as scarcely possible to work vi ork with any degree of satisfaction we e are well satisfied with the utah building and while it has not been formally passed ajon pon and accepted we anticipate no difficulty dih culty in in the final settlement tl as the contractor has a so far shown a w willingness to perform his part of the work in accordance with the terms of the contract A few minor minor details will have to bo be adjusted before the final payment is is made As is is usual the contractor will ivill have a claim for extras and so far as we are able to judge lie will w ill be entitled to an allowance allow ance for extra vork work while on the tile other liand land the commission om mission will w ill be entitled to some reduction by reason of the fact that some of the tile changes have resulted in a giving saving to the contractor the matter of extra work and reduction allowed according to alio terms of the contract being a matter for the architect to settle wo we did not cuter upon a formal consideration of the matter the electric wiring is vet yet to bo be done but as all the tile wiring nas has to be done on the outside of the plastering it cannot be put in until tho the building is is completed while in in chicago we received and considered bids for the grading and sod ding of the grounds and awarded the contract to air mr J JO 0 uro ure for he being the lowest bidder we ye also considered the matter of the lake pavilion and eagle gate these structures behave we hive decided it will be best to erect in the spring ve we carefully considered the adlisa clity of erecting a small kitchen and dining room at the roar rear of our building but could not obtain viat what wo we considered satisfactory climates estimates for the erection of the building hence we determined to delay the consideration of the matter until we returned there is much to bo said for and against tins this arrangement vo we are satisfied it will bo be a sayin saving in expense vet yet it may be an inconvenience in many ways the tle purpose is is to use the building for providing meals for the officials and employees about the building and not for a general restaurant in in fact we decided to mike make it an absolute rule not to allow anyone except the parties especially designated by the executive commissioner to receive receive meals there and hold the secretary res responsible for the enforcement of the me rule we will require the secretary and all at tend ants to be in in constant attendance at the building and we think considerable time and expense can be saved by providing i a means of serving meals to a limited number of people Ilo however wever this is is a matter for after consideration after visiting chicago and consult ing with the several chiefs of depart ments wo we fully concur in in and heartily reaffirm the recommendations made by vice president mackintosh in regard to the arrangement of the utah exhibit at chicago we also concur in all other ie ze bommen commendations zions of the vice vice president in comparison com piron with what other states and territories are doing we w e are well satisfied sAtis fled with tho the tr i ogress we have ma made de we e are inclined to believe that W we e have saved 3 to 4 on our building and grounds or in in other words it has other states at least that much more to accomplish the sime same results we have attained I 1 the importance of this great exposition as a means of advancing the inter cots of utah can scarcely be be comprehended A creditable showing by tho the territory will w ill be worth w miny many times what it will cost to make tile exhibit and our only regret now is is that the funds at our dis disposal ol 01 o l w will ill not permit us to ela elaborate borato more in several ways w a s yet 1 et wo we feel that no state will accomplish more for the amount of money expended thin than will utah how IIo wever ev er every ev cry dollar expended will w ill bring rich returns and the amount of good we may do is only limited bv ky tho the amount we have to expend As we now understand the situation we will beilig bring bick back to the territory in actual value vain of property and exhibits more than it will wili cost the territory to prepare and make the exhibit and this too a after counting out the cost of tho the build building ng which w will ill be practically a total loss as it will bo be of little or no value at the close of tho the exposition R 0 CHAMBERS
