year the airet day of this semester was chosen as the one on which the academy and grounds were dedicated apostle lorenzo snow pronounced the dedicatory prayer on august tho classes were organized grades 2 an intermediate containing the fifth reader grade aft these two departments named aim to give a good common school education preparatory to the academic work 3 an academic affording in its curricula ample facilities for a liberal collegiate education this department offers five courses of eludy viz an elementary a business a normal a scientific and a literary course the successful completion of any of these courses will secure an academy certificate or diploma the preparatory department in charge of miss alice findlay and assisted by mrs ella jones reports the following music 11 in normal institute music and 41 in tho choir special general theology comprising all tho members of our church divided into two classes preparatory and advanced has met every wednesday at p m the following ednd and number of have been turnis lied nineteen lectures 18 essays 20 songe 17 prose readings 18 poetry readings 35 addresses by students 40 questions asked 36 questions answered 17 isannah morris assistant secretary reports that 14 meetings have been held 12 lectures given 29 songs 4 instrumental solos 3 recitations 10 addresses 3 current items and 3 questions answered these meetings have been held on anday evenings tho on the pro gramme have been of an instructive and entertaining character with able lectures as specially important features cordial invitations have always been extended to the public under the auspices of this society four parties have been given to the students Teachers Society the teachers of the academy have meet weekly biweekly bi on tuesday evenings for alic purpose of discussing and methods of teaching and securing harmony of work faculty meeting convened every monday evening at which reports of students studies statistics and departments were given in by the teachers tho field club made a rusticating and instructive trip to water fall canyon last september library we realize that alie want of means lias thus far prevented our being supplied with a suitable liba ary eo p to a well regulated regul atad school for alie beautiful shelves that recently have put up in the library room we feel truly thankful but we lack the arst essential of a library the books our I 1 sincere thanks are due also to those who have donated and loaned to the academy nearly all alie books we now have we acknowledge many thanks tha following educator the beaver etonian and the B Y academy business journal cabinet few weeks after school commenced an effort was made to establish a cabinet and as a result we have a collection of valuable typical specimens of rocks and found in this western country laboratory As the laboratory lias been supplied with some chemical and physical apparatus shelves lioom and eink we are now able to do work in chemistry and physics 01 MONITORS elc our unqualified chanka are due to the members of the academy choir for their untiring euberts in contributing songs of praise and prayer at our devotional exercises morning and evening theology and at educational societies also do wo remember the monitors and seniors who have eo creditably and faithfully performed their duties in departments part ments and classes in fact all students patrons and friends who have in any way aided in alie onward progress of the academy we extend unto them our heartfelt thanks of appreciation president and members of
