Show TWO FIRES DURING THE MORNING Two fires occurred in the city this morning, one at 3 a. in., at the home of Fred J. Kenley at Five Points, the other at the Cr'Ss business block on Washington avenue, between Twenty-second and Twenty-third streets. A barn was completely destroyed by the Five- Points lire and damage done to the amount of about $200. The fire was controlled by the volunteer tire department of Five Points, the fire department In the city not being called on. It is thought that a tramp slept in the barn and set It on lire The lire In the Cross block was caused, presumablv, by a guest of the. rooming apaitments on the second floor leaving a lighted plps or cigarette cigar-ette In his room. The iire was discovered dis-covered at about 0 o'clock and an alarm turned In at stat'on No. I. A good run was made to the plnce, but the lire was of such nature that It was easily extinguished, a bucket of water In the hands of Chief Canlleld be-In? sufficient It is. the opinion of the landlady f the house and the firemen that the man occupying the room lei t a lighted pipe or cigarette In the room when ho left It this morning. The room was found lo be locked when the firemen appeared and when the dror was fore ed open the bedding, carpet and wall paper were on fire. The bed was completely com-pletely destroyed and considerable damage was done to the walls and carpet. The loss Is placed at $50. |
