At the Elephant Detective Detec-tive Pender was mistaken lor one of the special deputy sheriffs sent out by Sheriff Sharp and at th police station one of the men under arrest complained that the Salt Lake officials offi-cials were becoming altogether too i'ctl ve. POLICE RAID THE GAMBLING HOUSES What was planned to be a wholesale raid of the gambling houses by tho j.ollce resulted at an early hour this n'ornlng In the arrest of thirteen 'boosters" or hangers-on, who were found' in thiee Twenty-filth street re- borts. The detectives raided the Elephant, Ihe White Elephant and the Turf, hut tho announcement of their coming had preceded them, and in all of 1he places the various gambling devices were found idle. After visiting tho three places mentioned men-tioned tho officers also visited the St. Louis and other gatnblinig houses, but found all cloBed. Thirteen Men Arrested. Tho thirteen men placed under arrest ar-rest and lodged in the city Jull were as follows: A. E. Snow, R. Russell, Tom Johnson, Joseph Farnsworth, Bert Johnson, Mike Tine, E. Rocker, .1. Kula, J. King. George Jones, John J. Llndrpiist, Charles Moorchouse, Charles Campbell. Claiming that there was sickness In his family, Campbell was released on his own recognizance, hut the oth era were locked up for the nJghL No Gambling Going On.
