In 1S98, the Intercst-hoarlng debt of th5 United States was $847,300,680 Of this amouut $281,901,200 was held by national banks, and the rest by savings sav-ings banks- Insurance companle-s and Individuals. According to the lateht J statistics, our bonded debt was $913,-, $913,-, 317,190, of which the national bank-? I held no less than $724,874,166, or nearly near-ly eighty per cent.
