Show TWO FIRE ALARMS DURENGTHE DAY: Fire station No. 1 had a trial at two fires this morning, uiilber of which, however, were of very great magnitude. The department made good runs in both Instances, one fire being extinguished with chemicals. The first fire occurred at 11 o'clock In the rear of tho fruit store of Sam Labello, the Greek, on Washluglon avenue, between Twenty-second and Twenty-third street. It originated In the firing of a gasoline stove which was being used by Iibello for cook-iug cook-iug purjioees The only damage done was to bedding and a few household fixtures that were of little value Tho tccond fire was . reported nt about 12 o'clock, It being at the homo of Mrs. William Light at Pacific and Patterson avenues. This fire was started in the yard hy' burning cinders cin-ders from tho engines passing aloni; the Union Pacific railroad at,thut point Chief Canfleld was at the fire In a remarkably short jtlino and succeeded In stopping the flames with chemicals before, tbe department was barely on the ground.
