Mr. Ruder machine is of the double dou-ble cyyllnder type, and some of tho runs of this reinforced cycle were close to tbe record 290 miles hrnin,; been covered In the best day's run this, notwithstanding tho driver's 25(i pounds of avourdupois and a baggage bag-gage bumllo weighing 1j0 pounds. The cost of the gasoline and oil for this long trip was but $27.10, or ene-half cent per mile. Mr. Ruder tells many luteresting experiences which occurred ou the (rip, tbe most "touching" one. of which was a hold-up and robbery by a roving band of gypsies while the motorcyclist was endeavoring to run bis machine through a stretch of sand on the side of a mountain north of Billings, Mont. From his vase experience with the cycle on long cross country runs, Mr. Ruebcr hus learned that 'be belt is much preferable to the chain gear, and advises brother cycle fans to for-Hak for-Hak tho chain. He declares that the belt helps the driver greatly In sand piles and rough travel. The beJt will slip, of course, but tbo motor ! always al-ways kept In nctJon |
