Show CHILDREN'S HID SOCIETY MEETS The quarterly meeting of the Children's Chil-dren's Aid society or Ogden cltv and Weber county was hld at tho Weber academy last night, but unfortunately there was a very small attendance. An excellent program baa been prepared nnd It was deplorable that there was not a larger number out to hear the ' excellent addresses by the half dozen or more men and women who are prominent In the civic official circles of this city. The society was formed for the purpose pur-pose of caring for the ne.clccted, vag-rant vag-rant or cruelly treated children of Ogden Og-den aad another object of the organization organ-ization I3 the conservation of life. The meeting wa6 an enthusiastic one In Fpite of the fact that the audience was small. Judge Gunnell of the Juvenile court presided a chairman and In a short but Impressive talk outlined the alms and object of tho meeting and impressed im-pressed upon those present tho neccs-plty neccs-plty of securing funds with which to carry on the work. MIsb B. Helen Nebou rendered two very pleasing weal solos and Miss Lillian Lil-lian Wright acted as accompanist. The regular speakers of the evening were then called upou and the first was Ir3. Eishop. vice president of the organization. Sho made a splendid plea for the conservation of life, urging urg-ing that It should be held more dear than the conservation of forests, water and other natural resources. Rev. Brainerd, pastor of the Congregational Con-gregational church, said that charity I was not confined to giving things away nnd urged a central bureau for the carrying on of the society's work. He also advised the society to keep a concise record of all children who como under the care of tbe organization. organiza-tion. "There are more unsatisfactory home3 for children In Ogden than people peo-ple not doing charity work have cny Idea of," said Judge Gowans of the Utah State Industrial school. He was of the opinion that the Children's Aid Society could do an Immense amount of good. Judge Howell made a very impressive impres-sive remark when ho said: "Take care of the neglected and outcast children nnd we will have no criminals In the future." Ho proposed propos-ed that tbe society ask for a public subscription. Chief nt Police P.rownlng offered the society tho substantial aid of b'u staff of officers whenever necessary. Samuel Dye, county cloik, said that tho society was like the child without a home nnd undertook to take care of the children without homes. The next quarterly mectlug of the fociety takes place In January, but It Is very probable that a special meeting meet-ing will bo called in the near future. |
