The members of the Historical society so-ciety and a goodly number of guests enjoyed a musical program of unusual Interest when they met on last Friday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. R. P. Hunter, on Quincy avenue. Each member responded to roll call with an I appropriate quotation, after which tho speaker of the afternoon, Mr. Tracy Y. Cannon, of Salt IaUe City, gave a brief sketch of tho life of lid ward Alexander MacDowell, and a few selections se-lections characteristic of th charm and delicacy of the compositions of MacDowell were played An Interpretation Interpre-tation of the folk songs of the differ ent nations were given, and examples of tho folk music of Germanj, Bohemia, Bo-hemia, Russia, Poland, Hungary and other countries were rendered, not forcetting some of our own -.merlcan songs, at the close the listeners believed, be-lieved, with the poet, that music is the universal language of mankind.
