Yesterday afternoon the stockholders stockhold-ers of the Inter-Mountain Pair aso-flntion aso-flntion held their annual meeting in the county court house. It first developed de-veloped that there was a shortage of .tock represented and the telephone wires were put In use to eoa people who were stockholders to come to the meeting. After waiting nearly me hour enough stock was represented to constitute a quorum. The president and manager of last year's fair reported re-ported that he had received Bttlo or no support f)om the stock no I dm a. and re?rtt-d to snr that every effort of the board of directors was criticised criti-cised by some of the stockholders, and a few of the stockholders even went so far as to charge that the president and directors were paying themselves a big salary. Tho president presi-dent stated that he wanted it distinctly distinct-ly understood that there was not ono of the directors. Including tho president presi-dent and secretary, who received one single dolHr for salary or expense money or otherwise, and that the services ser-vices were given free without one dollar's dol-lar's reward, directly or Indirectly. The president further stated that he owned 120 shares of stock which ho purchased before he ever became a director or an officer of the fair association, asso-ciation, and that so tar as he was concerned he did not propose to pull any more chestnuts for the stockholders; stockhold-ers; that tho management of the fair was a thankless one even when paid for, but to receive cussps and abuse from ail those dlssatlsocd, and especially espe-cially those whom the Judges refused to recognize, is more than a voluntary volun-tary worker should be expected to take. Mr. Glasmann positively dated that he would not manage a fair this car under any conditions. Later on he consented to be one of the directors only en condition that he was not to take any active management in any fair. The president's report further stated that tho stockholders had assessed as-sessed themselves year after year to keep the fair going, and that more assessments were necessary. He believed be-lieved that tho people generally should bear the burden of a fair and not the stockholders alone, and recommended rec-ommended that the present fair association asso-ciation be turned over to the business men and people of Ogden to give a fair at the fair grounds, and that the fair grounds be leased or rented to the business men of Ogden for Just the Insurance, taxes and interest on the bonds. The president reported that, after adjusting the debt of the association, the following claims were unpaid: Premiums due Ogden city schools, about 50.00 rrcnilums due Weber county public schools 06.00 Premiums due Denf and D.imb school, about 10. m Money borrowed from Ogdn Savings bank 1,30''. Total deficit for tho year...$2.2.C.oi Which amount Is due and payable and arrauKoments should be undo fr I pay the Ham. It was explained thp. the by-laws did not permit the pay ment of cash awards to public instiin lions, and for that reason the schoo premiums had not been paid, but thai the money would be paid to the puplb as soon aa the names are secured. There was considerable dlscussie: In relation to the giving of fairr which developed that the stockholder were willing to stand their pro iuf;i assessment to secure the requite'1 funds to give a fair, but they did n; feel able to carry the whole burden and It soon developed that the stock holders all favoied turning the f.ili j grounds over to the business men ol Ogden, the latter to appoint a com mil tec to conduct the fair, and resolu lions were adopted instructing the directors not to give a fair, but tc lease the fair grounds to anv business man or combination of business mcr I in Ogden who would pledge them selves to give a fair each year, u i lease on the grounds to be given f-1 any term of years not exceeding ten years. It Is stated that the Inter-Mount?ir Four-State Fair association will le In corporated at once and continue the fair annually. The report of the officers nl?i showed that a majority of visitors a' the fair were from outside thA tity. People had come lv train from a distance, dis-tance, but few Ogden people hA attended at-tended the fair owing to the nalny weather, but had waited for a (rool day. Tho president stated that, with V'v assistance ho had received from t. business men of Ogden, had Hit. been good weather, the fair shouM have been able to clear its expense.! It developed that, quite a lot of i.if business men of Ogden felt it a plea.: ure to make a donation to the fair It also developed that some of our leading citizens some In public 1 1 1 o after holding out hopes of assistance withdrew that encouragement. When the election of officers was declared In order there was considerable tro;; ble In securing men who were willing to accept the duties, but. after a peed deal of sparring the following directors direct-ors were elected by a ununlmous vote: G. L. Becker, O. D. Madson, J. W. Bailey, O. M. Runyon, Ezra Richardson, Dr. II. M. Rowe and William Wil-liam Glasmann. |
