There wore about 1500 people present, which was somewhat of a disappointment for the opening day, but those present seemed seem-ed to have plenty of money, and eight bookies and two field bookK were kept hiiBtling aud writing out tickets. It was a bad day for the bettors, the layers cashing in on fine outsiders, one one favorite coming across. Being the opening day. n great many people had conceived the Idea that favorites would win. and, accordingly, played heavily. The bookies took all the money aud quit the day big winner.!. Orbicular stood out in the one-mile race, the feature event of tho day, and while he opened at 3 to 5 and closed at I to 3, there was a general rush to get on. Starter Dwer sent the field away with a pood start, Orbicular leaving the post in fifth position, po-sition, but before the half whs reached reach-ed .Jockey Singleton rolled to tho front and came home an easy winner by five lengths Fred Mulholland, a 100 to 1 shot, beat Sylvia U. by five lengths for place.
