Accordingly,. Miss Carter, upon her return to the east, Immediately took steps towards the formation of the society, and achieved surprising success. She has Innumerable Innumer-able letters from patients .who have been aided by the members of the organization she made possible According to the letter received from Miss Carter, the society as at present existing contains only women members, mostly young women, who, accompanied by a chaperon, call at the hospitals and Institutions of various vari-ous kinds for the purpose of reading to convalescents, providing llrerature, ' flowers and generally bringing the atmosphere of home into their lives In part. Miss Carter says, "The society soci-ety will print books on the needs of the convalescent, will get the best thoughts of the land on digestive ioods and ventilation, and will study ret locations and situations.
