Show GERONIMO, NOTED INDIAN I CHIEF, DIES AT FORT SILL Lawton, Okla., Feb. 17. Geronlmo, the noted Indian chief, died today at Fort Sill, where he had been confined con-fined as a prisoner of war for twenty-two twenty-two years. Geronlmo died at the hospital at the Fort Sill array post, where be had been held for several years as a prisoner of war. He died of pneumonia after two days' illness. Geronlmo will be burled in the Indian In-dian cemetery near the fort tomorrow. The funeral will be conducted by Christian missionaries, the decedent having professed religion three years ago. Geronlmo was the war chief of the Apaches. He was captured with his band at Skeloton Canyon, Ariz., twen-ty,-two years ago. having surrendered to General Nelson Miles, who, with his soldiers, had pursued him for months. |
