Show DR. SNOWDEN FINED IN COURT HE PAYS $5 FOR CALLING A HARSH NAME. Cow That Caused Much Trouble by Invading a Garden Owned by Joseph Welch. The case of Dr. C. R. Snowden, charged with disturbing the peace, was brought to trial this morning. Ihe defendant being fined $5 and costs. The case had been :iang:ng fire for several days' owing to a blunder blun-der in drawing tho original complaint, tho defendant's son being made the defendant, and later due to the nonappearance non-appearance of the real defendant In court. A plea of not guilty was entered by Dr. Snowden, and the complainants. Joseph Welch and wife, were asked for their story. They related how the Snowden cow had invaded their garden and had been subsequently impounded im-pounded by Mi. Welch. The "next morning Dr. Snowden called at the WelcTi home and, after denying that his cow had entered the garden, he proceeded to call Mr. Welch "a lying old " In tones which were audible to his wife within the house. The defendant admitted that he had called Mr. Welch the names charged, but claimed the complainant had said the same things to him. The court staled that the doctor had no right to enter a man's premises prem-ises and insult him with Improper language and threats to rto nlm great bodily injury. He then Imposed a line of $5 and costs, which tho defendant de-fendant paid. |
