It has been decided to secure the counsel coun-sel of those who come Into closest contact con-tact with this "white Blave trade," as United States District Attorney Sims has styled It, in order to determine the- best way to fight it effectually. Tho Florence Crlttenton Mission has interested itself In tho matter, letters from Mrs. Kate W. Barrett, general superintendent, "having, given assurance assur-ance of the co-operation of the mission and of Charles N. Crlttenton, its founder, found-er, in the Woman's World campaign to suppress the evils, with the effects of which the Crlttenton missions deal. "More than 20 years ago," she wrote, "Mr. Crlttenton published a hook called call-ed 'Traffic In Glrlg and Florence Crlttenton Crlt-tenton Missions,' showing the terrible ravages of this awful white 9lave traffic traf-fic even then; but in those days It was looked upon as tho outcome of a diseased diseas-ed religious enthusiast and was given but little credence by the ordinary thinking public. Now that all of the civilized nations of the globe have made the abolition of the white slave traffic a matter of international agreement, agree-ment, persons receive it In a different Bpirit." Hundreds of other letters have been received which Bhow the need of organized effort. A California woman asked for another article in the Woman's World, upon "what the women of America can do to help bring about legislation that would stop the white slave traffic." |
