This question is being be-ing a&ked bv scores of people who reside re-side in Salt' Lake City, and officials of other cities are wondering where they can lav their hands upon him. He is a much-sought-after young man, and It will not be surprising if in the course of time, Whitney finds himself in a position where he will not be envied bv anyone. "Last August Whitney blew into town. He claimed to hall from New York City, where his father resides, no he stated, and he claimed bis parent par-ent to be a man of unlimited wealth. He sought and secured a position on a local newspaper, but after a couple of months developed the idea that he was neither fitted for newspaper work, nor was newspaper work euited to him. Arriving Ar-riving at this conclusion, he left the business, stating that he had a little scheme which would make him a millionaire mil-lionaire within a few years. He worked his scheme, much to the sincere regret of numerous Salt Ike resldonts, and after playing it to the limit, and realizing that he had reached the end of his rope, he suddenly decamped, and has neither been seen nor heard from since. This was about two months ago He left behind him a large-sized bundle of unpaid bills and worthless checks upon which he had realized a considerable sum of money, and a wife a bride of onlv a few months, whom he deserted. ' He did not even leave her one cent of money, but he did leave her in a position where, unless un-less she took immediate action, sho would have a 'bill of $118 contracted by him to pay, or else be minus her clothes and other bflonglnga. All told, it Is claimed. Whitney owes lu tho neighborhood of $2,000 In this city, and there seems to be absolutely no chance, of any of this money ever being paid back. |
