Chambers Cham-bers as state game warden Is the answer that tho Governor of Utah ma!4e3 to thoso who have defamed a man who has been prominent in the affairs of this city for many years. It b the auswor tho Governor felt called upon to make after consulting some of tho highest legal authorities in the state. It comos as a rebuke to such papers as the Salt Lake Herald which said Mr. Chambers was debarred from office as a felon. That paper, when It uttered such a libel, knew that Mr. Chambers, In the councllmanlc cases, was a defendant In simply a civil action, ac-tion, for the last compilation of the statutes of Utah makes special reference refer-ence to the action as civil and not criminal, in fact the conviction was obtained because the defendant at the time of trial was not allowed to prove tho absence of wilful or corrupt motives. mo-tives. Mr. Chambers has been with this paper during the most active period of his life. Ho leaves because tho position he accepts is more lucrative than the newspaper field offers.
