Show OGDEN AND WESTERN PACIFIC. With tho opening to traffic of the Western Pacific to Wells, Nevada, a tariff Is expected to go into effect which will make Ogden a common point with Salt Lako In tho shipping of freight This is as it should bo. For years Salt Lake, although off the main line of two or three railroads entering en-tering Utah, has enjoyed the same rates accorded Ogden, the railroad center. With Salt Lako somewhat moro favorably situated in relation to the Western Pacific, the time has arrived ar-rived when Ogden is to gain the benefit ben-efit of an arbitrary rate such aa in the past has 'operated to the benefit of Salt Lake, in overcoming its natural natur-al disadvantages. ' In order to make Ogden a common Ioint with Salt Lake, the Oould roads must co-operato, the Rio Grande and Western Pacific, dividing the revenues obtained on Ogden shipments. I"ho best feature of this proposed rating Is that Ogden is to participate in all the benefits of railroad competition competi-tion to the coast. |
