Show ARMY WILL AID VICTIMS OF FIRE Provision for $3,000,000 Fund for Relief In Astoria Eliminated . WASHINGTON, Dee. 16. A resolution resolu-tion by Senator McXary, Republican, of Oregon, for federal relief of Astoria, As-toria, OTOt, fire victims was adopted today by tho senate and sent to the house. A proposal for a relief appropriation appropria-tion of $3,000,000 was eliminated by tho appropriations committee, but pio- visions authorising the secretary of war to distribute army supplies among the fire victims and also tako charge of sanitary' conditions were retained. BIG LABOR PROBLEM. ASTORIA. Ore.. Dec. 16. The federal fed-eral department of lalwir Is to be asked to help In handling the labor prob-l prob-l m here during the reconstruction period when it Is said that from 5,000 to 10,000 workmen will be employed in rebuilding tho area destroyed by last v. cole's fire. The department will be requested to establish a United States employment and labor bureau here. GUARDS REDUCED.
