Maughan Sets Nev Record in Taking Coveted Prize Lieut, R, I Maughan, Iopan aviator j who won the Pulitzer trophy In the aerial contest In Michigan yesterday, was an Ogden visitor about three weeks ago on his way to take part In the race. Maughan of Logan He was graduated from the I'lah Agricultural college In 1917 and In the same year entered tho officers' training camp at the presidio of San Francisco He was unable to make the infantry and transferred to the air service. He was officially credited with bringing down four German planes. I'pon his return to the 1'nlteJ States in 1919 he was assigned to Mather Field, near Sacramento, where be has since been stationed. Lieut. Maughan has made several flights to Logan from Mather Field, landing at a certain field he laid out near his mother's home. His speed in the Michigan race was 20i; miles an hour.
