On the one hand, a wound may heal quickly, with no danger to ,tho patients life or In alt h. In this case tho wound has nut becomo In-' In-' fected. I on the other hand, the wound may I become red and angry, It will throb with pain and the putlent may have, chills and fever. This 13 an lnfe-cted nd. Blood poisoning may follow. Germs cause infection. Tho germs are not the same oj in cont.iginus dls-leaaea dls-leaaea In wounds they aro called pus j forming germs. Our object should be to prevent tho Introduction of more. , Fortunately pus germs do not float about in tho air, so there Is no danger In exposing a wound to the ulr. They i uro found on our hands, on knives, ; scissors, clothing and In water. Surgeons have- found a way to kill them, however. Advantage has been takon of this knowledge to prepare Burgeons' gauze that is free from perms. This gauze is simply cheesecloth , that haa been put through a special process to kill tho germs. It can bi j bought In any drug store It should ! bo used to cover evory wound, and 'should bo kept on hand In every hou-rhold Never wash a wound, for pus germs are found in water. instead, put on a pad of gauze at' j once, being very careful not to touch that part of it which is to go on tho wound. If you have no gauze and cannot procure any quickly you can tako a folded t iwel, recently laundered, and boil It 10 minutes, squeezing out the water, but not touching the surface t' go on tho wound. |
