Show uu FARMERS CAN HELP OGDEN'S GROWTH. In his talk at the Weber club on Friday night, when the Rotarians entertained en-tertained the members of the Cham-jber Cham-jber of Commerce, Murray Jacobs of the Farm Bureau presented a plan of action which Bhould bo a guide in tho upbuilding of Weber county and Ogden. He pointed out that the field Is here, that the resources are available, and tho only thing lacking is tho directing of our energies to ihe task In hand. Weber county has 30,000 to 40.000 acres of land to be drained, the drain age of which would add hundreds of happy homes to the population. There are 60,000 acres which should be better watered by the storing of the spring floods. The poultry industry can be expand ed to equal tho sugar beet industry This Is a perfect climate for chicken raising. Milk production with all its byproducts by-products has been passed by an of minor importance, and yet dairying is distributing small sums of money to hundreds of families. This beginning could be built until Weber county took rank with tho most successful dairy districts of the west. Hog raising is almost neglected, al jthough Ihere is no more profitable investment lor a farmer than a few pigs. These undeveloped resources are at .our doors The surplus funds of the people, of Ogden should be going Into the lands of Weber county, into the poultry yards, creameries, hogs, land reclamation by drainage and Irrigation; Irriga-tion; into pea and tomato culture. Ogden can grow by helping the farmers of Weber county to do the big things which are within their reach. oo |
