Show SHARP REVIVAL IN UTAH MINING Prospect for Increased Output Out-put Better Than for More Than Year A decided revival in metal mining in Utah Is apparent at tho end of the first six months of 122, according to V. C. Heikos, of the United States geological geo-logical survey, department of the Interior. In-terior. The output of gold, silver, copper, cop-per, lead and z.lnc In 1921 was valued at $22.023.?9jL a decrease from $49.-744,334 $49.-744,334 In 1920, and the smallest output out-put since 1910. Early In 1922 the mines of Park City and Tlntic maintained main-tained production, but the output of the mines of Bingham was far bo-low bo-low normal. With the Utah Copper company gradually returning to active mining and milling and the International Interna-tional Smelting company preparlg to operate the plant near Tooele the prospects of an Increased output are better than they have been for more than a year Metal prices are Increasing Increas-ing gradually, freight rates have been reduced, and labor conditions are good. GKE1 OUTPUT DROPS. Gold valued at $1,769,906 was produced pro-duced in Utah In 1921, a decrease from $2,014,656 in 1820. Though th output out-put of gold has been steadily decreasing decreas-ing since 1911, th decrease in 1922 j should not bo large If the mines of Bingham return to a normal output for these mines normally produce moro gold than any other district of the state. The production of both gold and silver In Piute county was Increasing In-creasing In 1921, and recent operations I at the Dear Trail. Bully Boy and L X. Zj properties suggest a greater output I f or j g o u "SILVER STATISTICS. Tho output of silver In Utah in 1921 WSLS 18,361,998 fino ounces, a decrease from 13,106,976 ounce sin 1920 The mines of tho Tlntic district, especially the Chief Consolidated and Tintlc Standard mines, have aided greatly In making 1'tah tho largest silver producer pro-ducer in the United States, even during dur-ing 8 period of depression. In 1922 the record Is being upheld, though more low-grade ore is being milled The increase In shipments from tho Chief Consolidated and Orand Central, Cen-tral, near Eureka, was especially large Tho conditions In the Park City district dis-trict aro better than thoy have been tor years, especially in lis eastern pari, where the Park Utah mine has become be-come a largo producer, and new oro has been opened In tho Ontario property. prop-erty. Tho output of tho Silver King Coalition mine has been below normal durln gthe construction of the new mill, though moro crude oro is being shipped than In 1921 Shipments of silver ore, concentrate and bullion continue con-tinue from the Vlpont mine, In Box Elder county, and from the Deer Trail property in Piute countv COPPER PRODUCTION. The production of copper In Utah in 1921 was 30,891,403 pounds, valued at $3,984,991. a decrease from 116,931,-238 116,931,-238 pounds valued at $21,516,348, in I 1920 The Utah Copper company which produces most of the copper of Utah, was ldlo about nine months ad was only starting to operate one of its mills in April 1 922. The mine will probablv be producing 50 per cent of Its normal output later In the year At tho close of the nix months period the Utah Consolidated Mining company, com-pany, a producer of copper and lead i ore, had opened the mine at Bingham, land had started Us new 1.000-ton flo-'tatlon flo-'tatlon mill In Tooele county, near the International smelter. In 1922 tho Montana Bingham Mining company was Increasing its production of low-grado low-grado copper ore. LEAD RETPORT. The output of lead in Utah decreased de-creased from 140.838.113 pounds In 1920 to 89 187,269 pounds in 1921. Tho lead output was far below normal In 1021 and will probably bo small In 1922 The United States Mining company com-pany at Bingham has -ontinucd to ship lead-zinc ore for milling at Mldvale Mld-vale but the Utah Apex and the Utah Consolidated mines aro Just returning j to the productive stage. In the Tintlc district the Chief Consolidated. Eagle & Blue Bell. Victoria, and Grand Central Cen-tral mines shipped moro lead ore, but the Tintlc Standard mine produced i loss lead oro and more silver oro of 'milling grade. Tho Ophlr Hill Consolidated Con-solidated mine at Ophlr was again actively ac-tively shipping to the International smelter. At Park City more load ore was shipped from tho Silver King Coalition and the new concentration plant of this company was started, but the shipments from tho Judge and Daly West mines were mvjcb leas ZINC OUTLOOK. The price of zinc increased slightly In 1922 and some zinc concentrate was t-hlpped from oro mined at Bingham and milled at Mldvalo by tho United Statejj Smelting Refining and Mlnngl company. The electrolytic line plant at 1'ark City Is still Idle. Some ore was purchased In Juno for operating the oxide plant of the Utah Zinc company com-pany at Murray.
