Show EX SENATOR FALSE WILSON'S OPINION JACKSON. Miss., July 26. In answer an-swer to a query relative to what he thinks of former Senator Jamee K. Vardaman, who is a candidate for United States senator, Dr. James F. McCaleb, of Carlisle, Claiborne county, recently received a reply from former President Woodrow Wilson, asserting thai he thought Mr. Vardaman "thoroughly "thor-oughly false and untrustworthy." Mr. Wilson's letter follows: "Washington, D, C, July 8. 1922. "My Dear Dr. McCaleb: 1 have your letter of July 5. In reply let me" say that I am not in a position to review Mr Vardaman's record in Washington In detail, but I can sum up my Impression Impres-sion of him in a single sentence; "I think that he is thoroughly false and untrustworthy, and that it would be a great detriment to Mississippi and the nation if he should - be returned re-turned to the senate. Mr Vardaman Is one of the three candidates for the seat occupied by John Sharp Williams, who will retire soon, having said ho would "rather be a dog and bay at the moon" than serve longer. . rr |
